The Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), part of Confederation of Indian Industry, is spearheading the green building movement in India since 2001.
IGBC is hosting its annual flagship event – Green Building Congress since 2001 to to accelerate India's Green and Net Zero Building Movement, offering a platform for discussions, showcasing green projects, products and technologies, and creating business opportunities.
The theme for this year’s Green Building Congress is "Advancing Net Zero in Buildings & Built Environment”. In line with the theme, IGBC is working towards making the event as ‘Carbon Neutral’.
‘Carbon Neutral’ refers to balancing out the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted into the atmosphere. Carbon neutrality in this event will be achieved by reducing emissions and offsetting them through projects like renewable energy or afforestation or community-based initiatives.
As a first step, IGBC is reducing and offsetting the carbon emissions resulting from the following activities - Travel & Accommodation of participants, Fossil fuels used in the venue, Food preparation & wastage, and Diversion of all types of Waste.
